Thanks, Ari, for that clarification. Sounds good to me!

Agreed.

We left the cones out on purpose in our logo, because its not about cones. Cones are just a way to measure your ability to do certain tricks, which is useful for keeping track of progress and running competitions, but aren't really what makes it "freestyle"

taken to the extreme, freestyle should have no structure, not even requiring skates.

Anime, I love your name 'KillStyle' competitions - thats brilliant, I'm going to use that in future...

But the strange assumptions in the rest of your posts would indicate that you've never been to a freestyle slalom competition and only theorise about it, and so your arguments don't really warrant a full response. I hope to see you at a comp oneday and we can chat about it.

It's not?? I would like to ask for a recount of my score from BattleUS II please! :D :P

(aka, please consider what your organization and it's events will really offer a skater like me)

BattleUS is about cones (and there's cones in the BattleUS logo :P )

If you want to organize some other kind of events, feel free to use this forum/community as a starting point. You'll get out of USFSA what you put into it :)

Certainly a bunch of slalom skaters aren't going to suggest USFSA organize events for other disciplines. It would only be legitimate if one of our own who was into other types of skating (looking at you...) initiated something (maybe you just did!)

Ok, heh, so the US Freestyle Skating organization isn't about cones, cuz, you know, that would exclude non-slalom skaters, and be bad, because, you know, the organization is for everyone.

But the only event the organization currently holds is all about cones, and that's fine, cuz, err... uhhh.... hmmm.... you hate me.

Got it ;) :P

Edit to add - seriously though, don't take me the wrong way, that's fine - I think your events cater to vast majority of your membership. I just find it a little sad that the Jamskate community wants nothing to do with me, because I skate on inlines instead of quads, and that the Freestyle community (or at least it's events) all seem centred around cones. The end result is that I don't really belong anywhere :( :(

I think the point of my post wasn't to say we only support you in the logo but not in reality.

But rather, if you want USFSA to organize an off cones event, get your ass in gear in start organizing it. :)

Seriously though. Its not like there's some fascist organization jamming cones down your throught. At the end of the day, real people like Megan did _tons_ of work to organize BattleUS. Its silly to expect her to do the same for something you're into and she is not.

Organize an event and you'll have your event. Or even better, work with us to try to get some non cones stuff to happen at next years event. You're only an outcast if you choose to be.

I can empathize with Chris, who's apparently stigmatized by quad skaters because he chooses to express himself on inlines. Welcome to the club, brother!

As a rhythm skater on inlines, I decided to go my own way, too. And when those quaddies keep trying to convert me, I just say, "That's not the way I roll."

Yes, there aren't many of us, but we all know it's a lot of fun to do dance-oriented moves on inlines. And while some quad moves can't be duplicated easily on inlines, it works the other way for some inline moves. But hey, as long as you have a decent repertoire and can skate to the beat, you're good to go. The hell with what other skaters think!

I like the USFSA organization/website because it brings together inline skaters with advanced skills. Many of those skills, even though they're cone-oriented, have crossover applications for rhythm or jam skating on inlines. (Naomi is a prime example of someone who can do both.)

So don't get discouraged, and don't feel like an outcast. You're among friends here, most of whom will help you achieve your goals, even if it's within the larger context of freestyle slalom.

I'm also an inline jam skater. My local rink recently started an adults-only night and I felt very out of place being the only one on inlines. On any other night there are plenty of others inlines so it's no big deal, but I go to adults-only night to get away from them once in a while, and it seems none of the adult regulars but me wear inlines.

While it feels awkward, I wouldn't switch to quads in a heartbeat. Personally I think jam skating looks much cooler on inlines.
